Don’t judge a book by its cover!

Living Library is a project of the Council of Europe, which PATOS organizes during the festival PATOSoffIRANJE since 2012, supported by of the Council of Europe Office in Belgrade, Commissioner for Protection of Equality and the Ministry of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Serbia.

Living Library works exactly like a normal library – readers come and borrow a "book" for a limited period of time. There is only one difference: the Books in the Living Library are human beings, and the Books and readers enter into a personal dialogue. The Books in the Living Library are people representing groups frequently confronted with prejudices and stereotypes, and who are often victims of discrimination, prejudice or social exclusion. In this library, Books can not only speak, but they are also able to reply to the readers’ questions, and the Books can even ask questions and learn themselves.

Interest in the Living Library in Smederevo is very high and it’s evidenced by up to 200 readers in one day in ninth festival!, which confirms the fact the Living Library has become one of the most important events during the year in Smederevo. 

PATOSOFFIRANJE and Living Library continue to keep their "books" from forgetting and make Smederevo a city of diversity and tolerance.
